In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin made an announcement this morning that the IRS will be pushing the national income tax filing day to July 15. This will give Americans three extra months to send in their returns.
Additionally, he also announced that the extension will grant “all taxpayers and business additional time to file and make payments without interest or penalties”.
As COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread, government officials urge individuals to practice social distancing. This move is the latest in a series of highly unusual, emergency measures to deal with any financial fallouts of the coronavirus outbreak.
